DIY Metallic Mountain Wood Cut Out

Hello everyone!
Summer is finally here and for us, that means cabin season.
Erik and I were both lucky enough to grow up with grandparents who own cabins.
Both of our family cabins are still around and in the summer we try to get up to them as much as possible.
I have been slowly adding a few of my own touches to my family cabin over the years.
I found a wood mountain cut out at Michael's and decided to dress it up for my next piece of cabin decor.

You will need:
A Wood Cut Out, Any Shape Works!
Paint
Paintbrush
Mod Podge
Metal Leaf

Paint the wood your desired color.
I couldn't decide between a navy mountain or an olive mountain so, I went with both!
I painted one side navy and the other side olive.
That way I can use it with different decor over the years.

Let the paint dry.
Apply additional coats if needed, I did three.
Once the paint is completely dry, start to apply your metal leaf.
I used silver leaf for the navy mountain and gold leaf for the olive mountain.
The instructions my metal leaf came with said to use a special adhesive specifically for metal leaf but I didn't want to spend more money so, I went with Mod Podge since I had it on hand.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the area you want your metal leaf.
I found it was best to work in small sections.
Immediately apply the metal leaf onto the Mod Podge and using the backing paper gently rub onto the wood.

Once the metal leaf is secure carefully remove the backing paper.
Repeat until you have the metal leaf in all of your desired places.
I kept mine on the peaks of the mountain.

Use a soft brush to remove excess metal leaf.
Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the metal leaf to secure into place.
Let dry.
Enjoy!

I am very excited to take this up to my family's cabin this year.
The metallic accents will add a little glamour to our rustic cabin.
Which is just the way I like it. ðŸ˜‰
What color do you prefer?
Navy?

Or olive?

Cabin In The Woods | 26 For 26

Hello everyone!
Erik and I spent the weekend in the mountains at Erik's family cabin.

I love to go up there this time of year because of the leaves.
They are so vibrant in the fall!

We headed up Friday night and got there just before dark.
We snuggled in, watched TV and ate junk food all night.
The next day we went on a hiking trail!
My first, so I could cross it off of my 26 for 26 list.
It was fun to get out, see nature and enjoy each other's company.

It was rather cold up there...
We had the fire going whenever we were in the cabin.
We literally burned through wood like crazy!
Erik was my little lumberjack and chopped wood whenever he had the chance.
I even took a whack at it!
And got tired really fast...

We settled in around the fire for another night of TV and junk food.
We watched Hocus Pocus and got in the fall spirit.
The next morning we picked up, packed and went back home.
It was all over much too soon.

I'll tell you this, fresh mountain air does the body good.
How did you spend your weekend?

DIY Dreamcatcher Wall Hanging

Hello everyone!
During the summer Erik and I like to spend as much time as possible at my family's cabin.
The cabin has been around for almost 30 years and has experienced some wear and tear.
I am not much help with the heavy-duty stuff but, I do like to contribute with some updated decor.
I have always thought dreamcatchers would be a nice touch and decided to create this wall hanging.

You will need:
Embroidery Hoops In Varying Sizes
Crocheted Doilies To Fit Embroidery Hoops
Scissors
Yarn
Beads
Feathers
A Branch

Separate the rings of one of the embroidery hoops by slightly loosening the metal screw on top.
Place a crocheted doily over the inner ring and place the outer ring over to hold into place.
I made sure my doilies were a little larger than the hoops themselves so they would cover the entire opening and then some.
Make sure the doily is pulled taught so it looks nice and smooth.
Twist the metal screw on the top of the embroidery hoop tightly to secure the rings.
Trim any overhanging doily from around the back.

String the yarn through one of the openings of the doily at the bottom of the hoop.
Knot tightly into place.
Measure and cut the yarn to your desired length.
Thread a few beads onto the opposite open end of the yarn.
Tie the open end around a feather to finish it off.
Add additional tassels to the bottom of the hoop until the dreamcatcher fits your desired look.
I did more on the larger dreamcatchers and less on the smaller.
Repeat with the remaining hoops until you have several dreamcatchers.
Thread the yarn under the metal screw on top of one of the dreamcatchers and knot tightly.
Measure and cut the yarn to your desired length.
Tie the opposite end around your branch.
Repeat until all of the dreamcatchers have been added to the branch.
Hang in your desired location.
Enjoy!

I think this wall hanging will be the perfect addition to our cabin!
I love that it looks so simple with the natural colors but also dramatic because of the number of dreamcatchers.
And all the white will really pop against the cabin's wood walls.
Do you like the dreamcatcher trend?

Crushin' It At The Demolition Derby

Hello everyone!
Last week we had a holiday here in Utah.
It was Pioneer Day, also known as the 24th of July.
It honors the day the pioneers first entered Utah.
To celebrate Erik and I spent a few nights at my family's cabin and went to the Demolition Derby in town.

We attended it for the first time a few years ago and had so much fun.
The food, the atmosphere, watching cars ram into each other.
We loved it!
We try to go whenever we can and we were so stoked that we were able to pull it off this year.

We got to the grounds about an hour before it started to avoid the crowds and get a chance to check out the local vendors.
Then we headed to our seats.
We settled in and people watched until it began.
We watched and cheered as the cars raced and hit each other until only one was left standing.

After the first heat, we decided to grab some food.
Erik got a Hawaiian plate and I opted for a cheeseburger and fries.

The lines were a little long so we missed the second heat but, made it back just in time for the third.
Erik went back for some Deep Fried Oreos.
We had never tried them before and figured this was as good a place as any.
We enjoyed our food while watching the show.

Towards the end, the sun started to set behind the stadium and it was absolutely gorgeous!

After the Demolition Derby, they have a firework show.
They turn off all the lights in the stadium and shoot the fireworks just south so you don't have to move an inch.
I am always so impressed by how good it is for such a small town!

It was such a fun night and I am crossing my fingers and toes that we can make it back next year.
Have you ever been to a Demolition Derby?

All my love,
Autumn
