3 Easy Ways To Decorate Macarons

Hello everyone!
Mother's Day is fast approaching.
I always like to give my mama a treat along with some fresh flowers.
This year I decided to go with macarons.
They are beautiful and elegant which makes them perfect for Mother's Day.
I have never made my own macarons and I wasn't going to start with ones meant to be a gift so, I purchased some from a local bakery.
I wanted to add my own touches to them so they would feel a little more personal.
Here are the three ways I added my own decor.

Paintbrush Strokes

Add a few drops of almond extract (or another clear extract) to food coloring and mix to dilute.
Using a small food-safe paintbrush, add strokes to your macarons.
I did one with thicker strokes for a modern look.

And I did another with lighter strokes that really showcased the brushwork and gave it a more sophisticated feel.

Gold Leaf

Using baking tweezers (NOT your hands as the oil from them will dissolve the gold leaf) take small pieces of edible gold leaf and place them on the macaron.
I kept my pieces small and to one side.

Shapes and Initials

Add a few drops of almond (or another clear extract) to food coloring and mix to dilute.
Using a small food-safe paintbrush, gently paint your desired shape onto the top of the macaron.
I went with a heart.

Add a few drops of almond (or another clear extract) to food coloring and mix to dilute.
Using a small food-safe paintbrush, gently paint your desired initial onto the top of the macaron.
I went with an "M" for mom.

I also used the heart macaron as an "O" to spell out mom.

Package the macarons for gifting.
Enjoy!

Here's a little before and after.

I love how these simple designs added character and made the macarons feel a little more homemade and thoughtful.
What are you getting the ladies in your life for Mother's Day?

Quick and Easy DIY Floral Initial

Hello everyone!
Springtime is upon us even though we are stuck in the house...
Today I am going to show you an easy DIY for a floral initial.
It's the perfect decoration to bring a little springtime to your home.

You will need:
Wood Initial
Flower Blooms
Wire Cutters
Hot Glue Gun
Hot Glue Sticks

Using the wire cutters, cut the flowers and leaves from the stems, getting as close to the base as possible to help them lay flat.
Starting with the large flowers, arrange on the initial in your desired position.
Add in the medium flowers.
Then the small flowers.
Then add in the leaves to fill in any open spaces.
Once the letter looks how you'd like, hot glue the flowers and leaves into place.
Let dry.
Enjoy!

This craft is super quick and simple.
It took me around ten minutes to create.
It would look so cute sitting on a shelf, or you can add it to other items around the house to give them some spring flair.
We added ours to our boxwood wreath on our front door.
It would also make the perfect gift for Mother's Day.
It's coming up!
Hint, hint.
How would you style a floral initial?

Valentine's Gift Guide For Her

Hello everyone!
It contained 10 gifts under $30.
This year I am going to share 10 more gifts for the ladies in your life that range in a variety of prices.
That way you will have all your bases covered for your lover, your best friend or even yourself!

I have heard amazing things about Frank Body.
Their Glow Getter kit is the perfect place to start!
It includes their original coffee scrub, original face scrub and a glow mask.
A great way to get pampered from head to toe!
Did I mention it comes in pink packaging?

I am a huge fan of Friday Apparel!
I have several of their tees and sweatshirts, including this love yourself tee.
It's the perfect shirt to rock for Valentine's AND year-round.
Because in the words of my girl Lizzo, "True love finally happens when you by yourself!"
Did I mention a part of the proceeds from this tee go to a charity to support women and children?
Win, win!
Also, use code "AUTUMN20" and save 20% on your entire purchase.
I got you!

What's more fun than a novelty bag to add some flair to an outfit?
Nothing!
Anything that is heart-shaped is perfect for Valentine's Day.
But, this bag would also be an amazing everyday accessory.
And it's currently on sale!

I received the smaller versions of this shampoo and conditioner for Christmas and instantly fell in love.

Also, pink packaging!

Another Utah based company (gotta represent!), Made By Mary offers beautiful hand-stamped jewelry.
The heart stamp is perfect for Valentine's and is simple enough to represent any relationship in your life.

But, rose gold really speaks Valentine's Day in my opinion...

A fun gift that is perfect for almost any age.
This easy to use camera will help you document memories for years to come.
It prints small polaroids instantly that are easy to display any and everywhere.
The flamingo color is a great choice for the holiday but, the camera comes in a variety of colors to satisfy any person on your list.

DIY Cupid's Arrow Gift Boxes

Hello everyone!
Valentine's is slowly creeping into our lives and I love it...
No pun intended!
I have always enjoyed Valentine's Day and the opportunity it brings to shower the people in my life with love.
Today I am going to show you how to make simple Cupid's arrow gift boxes to help you give some love.

You will need:
Scissors
Wood Dowels, I used 3/8 Inch
Hot Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Fillers

Remove the lids from the heartshaped boxes.
I used pre-colored boxes but, you can get plain papier mache boxes and decorate them individually if your people aren't fans of classic Valentine's colors.
With the scissors, poke a small hole towards the bottom of each of the boxes.
You will want the hole towards the bottom so the lid will be able to still fit comfortably on the box.
Start small, you can always go bigger but not smaller.
Work the wooden dowels through the holes until they are just barely through.

Secure the dowels into place with the hot glue.
On the opposite end of the dowels, hot glue feathers on top of one another until you reach your desired fullness.
Add your fillers into the boxes.
I used three-inch boxes for my arrows but, you can use larger if needed.
The three-inch boxes are perfect for holding candy, jewelry, and small toys.
Gift.
Enjoy!

These boxes take no time to create and turn out so fun.
The feathers, the colors, a functional heart-shaped box.
What's not to love?
They are perfect to give smaller gifts in, to decorate a larger gift with or even as just a decoration in your home.
How would you use these fun boxes in your life?

Autumn

I have had my eye on one for a few years but, was never quite sure what I would use it for.
During the last year or so my tassel earring collection as grown.
And that's when it hit me...
How perfect is this organizer to store and display tassel earrings?
A pretty organizer for only $17?
That's a win-win.

Slide slippers seem to be the hot trend this year.

DIY Candy Graduation Leis

Hello everyone!
Since posing about Erik's graduation, I have had a few people ask about the candy lei's I made him.

I know that during the next few weeks there will be a lot of graduations so, I thought it would be the perfect time to share.
The best part is that they are fairly inexpensive and quick to make.

You will need:
Candy Bars, I used King-Sized
Plastic Wrap
Scissors
Curling Ribbon
Tape, Optional

Lay your candy bars vertically end to end in your desired pattern with an inch or two in between.
I am very much a go big or go home person so, I went with king-sized candy bars.
You can make your leis with any size you prefer.
Fun size, regular, etc.
Roll out your plastic wrap along the length of the candy bars leaving a few extra inches of plastic wrap at either end.
Cut the plastic wrap.

Place your candy bars in the middle of the plastic wrap in the same pattern face down.
This will make the front of the candy bars show on the lei.

Fold both edges of the plastic wrap over the candy bars.

In between each candy bar tie a piece of ribbon to create a "pocket."
Do not tie a piece between the first and last candy bars and the open ends of the plastic wrap.

Repeat until you have completed this between each candy bar.
Twist the open ends of the plastic wrap and bring them together, overlapping one another.

I like to wrap a piece of tape around the two ends to help reinforce the weight of the king-sized candy bars.
This is optional and would most likely not be needed for smaller candy bars.

Tie a piece of curling ribbon over the overlapped ends.
Curl your ribbon if desired.

I like to add one or two more pieces of ribbon in between the candy bars to get a fuller look.
You could even use the graduate's school colors.
Enjoy!

Erik has a major sweet tooth so I knew candy bar leis were the way to go for him.
I think they are a fun way to present the graduate with an extra inexpensive gift.
I love to see graduates with several different styles of leis at graduation.
It's a big accomplishment that deserves to be celebrated.
Are you celebrating a graduate this year?
Where are they graduating from?

All my love,
Autumn
