Makeover Monday | Christmas Cork Board Design

Hello everyone!
Happy Monday!
As you know I love to update the cork boards in my office to match the current season or holiday.
Today I am going to show you how I updated them for Christmas!


I spend a lot of time in my office during the holiday season.
It is Santa's workshop so I wanted to make sure my cork boards were festive.
You know I have been loving the more natural color scheme and it made its way over to my cork boards as well!

I kept the fairy lights draped over the cork boards and they added the perfect amount of Christmas magic.
I love having them on while I wrap presents in my workshop.

Makeover Monday | Christmas Shelves

Hello everyone!
As you know I love open shelving.
Several rooms in my house have it.
One of my favorite things about open shelving is how easy it is to change from season to season. 
I added a few items to our shelves in our living room, kitchen and family room in preparation for Christmas.
I love how each one turned out!

The Living Room:


Our living room is what we refer to as our "fancy room."
The color scheme is gray, black, white and gold with some pops of pink.
For the first row of our shelf I added a snow globe on top of our stack of books.


The dear head on it's own is rather Christmasy but since it is on our shelf throughout the entire year I wanted to add a little something.
I added some gold bulb lights and hung them from it's antlers.


The next shelf doesn't offer too much room since my record player and records are there so I moved my Christmas Disco record to the front of the row to help out.


On the next row I added in this tall glass gold Christmas tree. I love how classy it looks.


On the bottom shelf I placed a white ceramic nativity scene that I got for my first Christmas.


It has been with me my whole life and has such a special place in my heart.
I was so happy to find a place for it on our shelves.

The Kitchen:


Our kitchen is nowhere near being done...
When it is done the color scheme will be blue, white and gray with pops of pink and red.
This is where all of our colorful red Christmas decor ended up.
On the top shelf I added this festive Christmas tree that was a gift from one of our Family's previous Progressive Dinners.


For the next shelf I added in a red, white and green Christmas jar I received as a gift from my sister.


It's perfect for stashing some Christmas candy. 
On the bottom shelf I simply replaced the print in the frame for a bright and fun Christmas print.


The Family Room:


The family room has a more relaxed feel. 
The color scheme is blue, gray, black and white with some natural elements like wood and copper to add warmth.
On the top shelf I added a wood nutcracker.


On the middle shelf a wood Christmas tree with some gold glitter.


On the bottom shelf a beautiful blue sparkly deer that I got as a gift for last year's Progressive Dinner.


To add in some more color I hung a pom pom garland of blues and white to the middle shelf. 


I love the way each shelf turned out!
It's so fun to add Christmas to each room and still let them have their own personalities.

Makeover Monday | Erik Office Design Part 2

Hello everyone!
Happy Monday!
I hope you all had an amazing holiday weekend.
Today I will be going over the final design for Erik's office.
This is for the wall to the right of our last concept design.


This wall is painted a dark gray as well.
Against the wall Erik has two large black bookcases.
Here his massive game system collection is displayed.
Every shelf holds a different game system and to the side of the game system is a stack of games that go with it.
In between the bookcases he has his TV.
Currently the TV sits on a dinky little shelf.
I would like to get a more sturdy bookcase and get the TV mounted above it.
I really liked the look of the this bookcase and love how it is separated for storage.
On it we will store the game systems he is currently playing along with his TV series collection.
Erik has so much gaming equipment.
I think this is a great way to display it without it looking too cluttered.

Makeover Monday | Garage Organization Part 1

Hello everyone!
Erik and I have lived in our house for about a year and a half and finally took on a big project that has been on our to do list.
Cleaning out the garage!
When we first moved in anything we couldn't find a place for got left in the garage.
A few months later my parents dropped off a large amount of stuff they had been storing for me at their house and it was left in the garage.
A few months after that Erik came home from his Mom's house with a ton of boxes from his childhood and they were left in the garage as well.
Add all of those things in with the random stuff the previous owners left for us and we had one messy garage.
We decided to finally tackle it since winter will soon be upon us and Erik would like to be able to park his new truck in the garage.
I am embarrassed to show this but here is the before:

The previous owners built their own shelves and left them in the garage when they moved out. 
We didn't mind as they came in use.
We moved quite a bit of junk inside and organized it in our basement.
The rest we organized into sections: yard tools, camping equipment, car supplies, etc.
The other half of our garage still has some work to be done and a trip to the dump is in order but I think we made great progress on the first half.
And Erik can finally park in the garage!

Makeover Monday | Erik Office Design Part 1

Hello everyone!
For today's Makeover Monday I will be going over the first concept design for Erik's Office.
This is Erik's room so I have given him full creative control but I wanted to show you what he has shared with me.
This concept design covers the wall to the left as you enter the room and the wall to it's right.


As I mentioned in my previous post, Erik and I settled on a gray office with black furniture.
The walls in Erik's office have already been painted a dark gray.
Erik specifically chose this black desk because of the pull out panel.
It fits under the desk when not in use and is the perfect temporary desk for when a friend brings their computer over.
Since the desk doesn't offer a lot of storage I suggested adding two shelves slightly above the desk to create room.
This gives storage for his computer games, headphones, controllers and at my request his degree.
I will make him show that (soon to be two) off.
On his desk he has his desktop, keyboard and mouse. 
Behind the desk his black leather desk chair. 
Directly in front of the desk Erik wants to place a black leather love seat.
Both the love seat and his desk will face the TV.
The love seat will be the seating area for when they are playing his game systems on the TV.
Above the front of the desk and the love seat is the window.
We chose a gray black out shade for coverage.
The shade fits the modern feel of the room and will create a dark atmosphere even during the day.

Makeover Monday | DIY Bay Window Curtain Rod

Hello everyone!
When Erik and first started looking at houses I really wanted one with a bay window.
It wasn't a deal breaker but I wanted one pretty bad...
Luckily we found our house and it had a bay window.
What I didn't know is that bay window rods are expensive!
I'm talking around $70 dollars for the cheap ones...
After a year and a half of living in our house I decided it was time to figure out what to do.
That's when I decided to make my own.


You will need:
Pipe Cutter
Two Pipe Plugs
Spray Paint

Measure your bay window and decide how long you would like your curtain rod to be.
My local home improvement store only had a ten foot pipe which was a little over what we needed. 
Luckily my handy man husband had a pipe cutter and cut it down to the right size for me.
I am sure you could have them do this for you in store as well. 
I chose a 3/4 inch round pipe which was the smallest size available at the store.
You can go bigger if you would like just know it might be hard to find brackets that fit a larger pipe.
Mark where you want your curtain rod to bend.


Recreate the angle of your bay window.


We used two sheets of paper from a note pad and a thumb tack. 
Really fancy over here...
Place your angle guide next to the pipe and bend where you have marked the angles to go.


I stood on the pipe while Erik bent it into shape.
Once you have your curtain rod the way you would like it place the pipe plugs on either end of the curtain rod.
You can also purchase curtain rod ends from the store and add them.
I was going for a cheap curtain rod and wanted a flat end so I figured this would do.
Spray paint the pipe your desired color.
We went with black to match the rest of the living room's hardware and a satin finish so that it wasn't dull but also wan't too shiny.
While the pipe drys hang your brackets.
We did four brackets.
Two at the outer ends of the bay window and two at the corners of the larger window.
We placed them at the height we preferred. 
The brackets were for a 3/4 curtain rod but were just a little too tight on our pipe as the 3/4 measurement is for the inner part of the pipe.
We bent the brackets with a plier a few centimeters more and it worked perfectly.
Once the pipe is dry place it along the brackets and hang your curtains!

Altogether it cost under $30!
I will take that over $70 any day.
Now that we have the bay window curtains up the room is officially done!

Makeover Monday | Office Inspiration

Hello everyone!
Happy Halloween Eve!
The only room left to cover upstairs is Erik's Office.
The overall design of his office will be up to him but I wanted to give you an idea of what he has shared with me and what we have agreed upon.
Right before we purchased our house we bought Erik a new desk. 
He always had envisioned a black desk so a black desk we got.
Since he was going with black furniture I suggested gray walls.
Gray is Erik's favorite color and at the time gray walls had just started becoming popular.
He agreed.

When we bought our house one of the upstairs rooms just happened to be painted a darker gray.
It automatically became Erik's office.
Erik is a huge gamer.
He has several different gaming systems and the games and controllers for each.
I suggested tall bookcases to help display all of his treasures.

I think the dark walls and dark furniture are perfect for his man cave.
If there is one thing I have learned it is that Erik likes it dark when playing games.
The deep color scheme will help keep the room dark and cool.

Makeover Monday | Hall Bathroom Design Part 2

Hello everyone!
For today's Makeover Monday we will be going over the second and final design for our Hall Bathroom.
This concept design will be for the two walls to the left of our previous post.


Both of the walls will be painted light gray.
I chose a simple light gray and white striped shower curtain so that it wouldn't over power the room but would still add a pattern.
Both of the bathroom's in our house had just gotten new white subway tile in the shower before we moved in and I absolutely love it!
We will be replacing the shower head, shower curtain rod and towel rack to an oil rubbed bronze to match the rest of the bathroom's hardware. 
Outside of the bathtub we have a light gray striped bath mat.
To add some more texture to the bathroom I chose white bath towels that have a subtle gray honey comb pattern and tassels.
Underneath the towel rack I decided to add in a wooden stool.
It adds a bit a warmth into the room and adds a little more storage space.
This room has such a simple color scheme and design I wanted to really play with patterns and texture to make it feel less plain.
Overall I like how the designed turned out.
Now we just need to get started!

Makeover Monday | House Number

Hello everyone!
Happy Monday!
In my original porch design I showed you how we wanted to add our street address on our house by getting some satin nickel numbers and hanging them vertically.
I am proud to say we got that done this weekend!


We placed the number to the right of the our front door in between the frame and our porch light.
I think it turned out so cute!


So... confession time.
This is not the final product.
I didn't want our actual address online so I made up an address and taped the number up there.
The actual address was nailed on afterwards.

Makeover Monday | Hall Bathroom Design

Hello everyone.
This week's Makeover Monday is going to be on a Tuesday...
Have I mentioned that life has been crazy?
I had this design ready to post and didn't want to postpone.
So here it is.
Makeover Tuesday!


The hall bathroom is mainly used by our guests now.
I want it to feel clean and inviting.
I'm putting the gray paint we used in our living room and hallway to use again.
The hall bathroom is located close to both of them so I think it will flow well.
The vanity is a darker gray so it won't blend in against the light gray walls.
The counter top is plain white stone.
The hardware: faucet, towel bar, trash can, handles and toilet paper holder are an oil rubbed bronze that appear almost black.
Above the vanity we have a mirror with gray beading.
I love that the beading adds something so it's not just a plain mirror and ties it into the color scheme.
This bathroom is on the smaller side so I added an oil rubbed bronze shelf over the toilet for storage.
We have spare toilet paper, a canister to hold cotton balls, a glass candy jar which holds my bath bombs and a candle.
I like to keep things that guests might need accessible so they don't have to rummage through the vanity looking for something.

Makeover Monday | Spiderweb Porch

Hello everyone!
Life has been crazy lately so please accept this Halloween decoration for Makeover Monday.


Every year Erik and I cover our porch with a decorative spiderweb.



On the spiderweb we place lots of spider rings.
We have always wanted to add in a giant spider and we finally purchased one this year.
Check that off the Bucket List!
We perched the spider right above the front door so he can watch you get caught in the web!


Since our front door is metal I cut off a few of the ring bands and glued a tiny magnet on the back of a the spiders.
Then I placed them on the the door.


Walking up to our front door is like walking into a giant spider nest.
It's so fun and festive!

Makeover Monday | Hall Bathroom Inspiration

Hello everyone!
For our next design posts we will be covering the hall bathroom.
The hall bathroom is mainly a guest bathroom right now.
I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do with it.
I found a few pictures on Pinterest of gray bathrooms that I really liked.
Overall they felt neutral and clean which is what I thought would make our guests most comfortable. 









I love the modern feel of these bathrooms.
The lighter color scheme makes the rooms feel more open and clean.
The hallway off of the bathroom is painted the same light gray as our front living room.
I thought that by brining this color into the bathroom it would create a nice flow and feel of consistency.
Plus we already have the paint!
