Our Trip To Batuu: Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Hello everyone!
Tomorrow is May 4th and for those of you who are not Star Wars fans, that means it's unofficially Star Wars day!
May the Fourth be with you!
To celebrate I thought I would share about our experience at the newly opened Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland.
We were lucky enough to visit last September just a few months after it's initial opening.

Erik and I were both rather impressed by it.
The size of the land is unparalleled to any other in the park.
The buildings and rock rise over your head making you feel minuscule.
The attention to detail is insane...
Every rock, light, and rundown building was specifically designed to keep the theme of the park in mind.

Our first stop was for breakfast at the restaurant Ronto Roasters.
It is famous for its Ronto Wrap.
Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce, and tangy Slaw wrapped in Pita.

Since it was so early we opted for the Ronto Morning Wrap.
Scrambled Eggs, Grilled Pork Sausage, Shredded Cheddar, and Peppercorn Sauce wrapped in Pita.
It was tasty but, didn't blow me away.
Next time we are there we are going to try the original to see if it lives up to the hype.

After breakfast, we had a small window to explore before heading over to Oga's Cantina.
Oga's Cantina is a themed bar that serves snacks and drinks.
You do need a reservation to dine at Oga's.
When we visited you were only allowed to make a reservation the day of but now you can make them up to 60 days in advance.

We waited a short time after checking in and were given menus to look over while waiting to be seated.

After a few minutes, we were taken inside to our table.
Since it was just the two of us we were seated with a group of two other couples.
I am not sure if this was just for the few first months to get as many people in as possible but, we really enjoyed the company of the other couples we were placed with.
They were all interesting, friendly, and local to California so, they were able to give us some tips for our visits to other destinations.

The details in the bar did not disappoint!
There were many weirdly shaped bottles with odd liquids inside, different creatures lurking about and a robot DJ to keep the bar theme strong.

Erik and I each ordered our own drink.
I ordered a HyperDrive (Punch It!)
Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, White Cranberry Juice, Black Cherry Puree, and Sprite.

Erik ordered a Fuzzy Tauntaun.
Ciroc Peach Vodka, Bols Peach Schnapps, and Simply Orange topped with Tangerine, Pure Cane Sugar, and "Buzzz" Foam.

When they brought us our drinks, they told Erik to be careful and not to inhale the "Buzzz" foam on top.
Since it was going into is mouth and would be near his nose this was a little off-putting...
We quickly learned why.
The buzz foam served on top of the drink numbs your mouth!
It was such a weird sensation.
It felt like we had just left the dentist.
Not the best feeling in the world but, it did make me interested in what other crazy items they have to enjoy.

After our drinks at Oga's, we wandered around the nearby shops.
We visited Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities.
It has anything and everything for the Sith or Jedi in your life.
Clothes, toys, home goods, you name it.

Next door is Savi's Workshop where you can customize your own lightsaber.
You need a reservation to enter and Erik and I couldn't justify spending $199.99 on a lightsaber, though we might have wanted to...
So, we headed to the Droid Depot where you can build your own BB or R Unit piece by piece.
You are allowed to walk around the Droid Depot and can watch other people create droids.
There was a little boy building a BB unit and he let us in on the fun.
He kindly held up which pieces he was choosing from the conveyor belt and we watched him build it and bring it to life.
You get to customize the color of your droid and can even pick out a personality chip to go with it.
Droids start at $99.99 and Erik and I were this close to breaking down and building one of our own.

We were lucky enough to ride Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run twice while we were there.
On the ride, you are sorted into groups of six and given a role.
There are two pilots, two enginers and two gunners.
You are given a ticket that assigns you a role and gives a short description of what you will be in charge of.
Erik and I were gunners and engineers both times we rode.
I have heard the pilot role is where it is at.
Your crew is in charge of your flight and how well you do.
The pilots actually fly the ship, the gunners push buttons to shoot at objects and the engineers push buttons and pull levers to fix the ship when damage occurs.
The ride is very immersive and a lot of fun when you have good pilots. 😂

Unfortunately, the Rise of the Resistance ride was not open when we went.
It opened in January of this year and I have heard nothing but good things about it.
I cannot wait to ride it the next time we are at Disneyland.

After riding Smugglers Run we wandered over to Blackspire Outpost to explore the shops.

The outpost has a handful of shops with specific themes.
A Toy Store, a Creature Stall, a Clothing Store, and so on.

Once again the attention to detail was incredible.
The shopowners are dressed as though they are actually native to Batuu, whenever you make a purchase they refer to dollars as credits, and if you listen carefully you can hear some strange noises while shopping around.

Then it was off to the Milk Stand to try the famous Blue and Green Milk.
We had to get one of each to decide what team we were on.

Both types of milk were very refreshing.
The Blue Milk leans to the fruity side and the Green Milk is more tropical.
Also, it is NOT a glass of colored milk.
The drinks are made of coconut and rice milk and are similar to the consistency of a slushie.
Erik and I both preferred the Blue Milk.
After speaking with many people about this I have come to learn we are in the minority on this one.
Most people prefer Green!

While drinking our milk we were able to see a few characters.
Kylo Ren's ship was parked nearby and he walked out of it while we were enjoying our drinks.
He had a heated argument with one of his Generals who then ordered Stormtroopers into the crowd to interrogate guests to see if they were with the Resistance.
The General walked right past us looked at Erik and with a salute said "Enjoy your blue milk, sir! It's very delicious." and continued on his way.

All in all Erik and I really enjoyed our time in Batuu.
I will be perfectly honest in saying that Erik and I enjoy Star Wars but are not very well versed in a lot of its details.
That being said, I think that it is something that the biggest fan of the franchise to the person who doesn't know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek can enjoy.
Disney put a lot of work (and money!) into this new themed land and I think it's working in their favor.
I can't wait to see all that they will continue to do with it.
Have you visited Galaxy's Edge?
What did you think?

May the force be with you,
Autumn

The Most Photogenic Walls In Disneyland

Hello everyone!
Erik and I just got back from our anniversary trip to Disneyland.
It was amazing!
Disneyland is one of the most photogenic places in my humble opinion...
Every wall is a different color or a different pattern.
While I was there I took some pictures to show you a few of my favorite walls in both Disneyland and California Adventure.
Here they are!

Disneyland
Small World Wall

This is one of the most popular walls at Disneyland.
It even has its own Instagram!
The light blue and white color scheme matches the exterior for It's A Small World ride (hence the name) and the whimsical shapes make it super fun!
It is located across the walkway from It's a Small World in Fantasyland in between the pretzel and popcorn cart.

Frontierland Wall

This is the perfect wall for a more natural background for your photos.
The brownish-red hue of the rocks is easy to pass up in real life but is the perfect subtle backdrop in photos.
It is located on the path between Frontierland and Fantasyland, right between the middle and left entrance to Galaxy's Edge.

Star Wars Wall

This is easily my favorite wall to take pictures in front of at Disneyland.
The stars add such a fun texture to the background of your photos.
I like to do a closeup shot and blur the background so that it almost looks like glitter.
You can find this wall at Star Wars Launch Bay in Tomorrowland.
The attraction had actually closed for the day when we grabbed these shots.
We snuck over to the stairs located by the bathrooms near Autopia and were able to get pictures just fine.

Disney's California Adventure
Sky Wall

This is for all my ombre lovers!
This wall is called sky wall as it resembles the sky at sunrise or sunset.
It starts with light blue fades to yellow to pink to purple to dark blue.
It is simply gorgeous!
You can find it to the left or right side of the Hollywood Backlot Wall in Hollywood Land.
Just a heads up, the left side has character meetings for a good portion of the day and the right side gets busier before Frozen showtimes as it's where the line starts.
Later in the day is your best option for this wall.

Blue Wall

This wall is a fan favorite because it is the perfect shade of blue.
It also has its own Instagram!
It's definitely one of my favorites because yo girl loves blue.
You can find this behind Mickey's Philarmagic in Hollywood Land, located next to the exit doors.

Poultry Palace

This is one of the most random walls at the parks.
Mainly because it's located on the side of a restaurant and only one wall is painted this way.
Its bright colors and abstract shapes make it so fun!
The wall is actually a picture of a giant chicken in knights armor but, if you get in close enough you get the fun design.
Poultry Palace is located on Pixar Pier across from Jessie's Critter Carasoul next to Senor Buzz Churros.
The west wall is the one you want.

I love Disneyland SO much!
I always take a million pictures to document our trips.
It's hard not to since Disneyland itself is so photogenic.
What did you think of this wall guide?
Would you want to see more?

All my love,
Autumn

Festive Homemade Churros

Hello everyone!
Cinco De Mayo is tomorrow!
Erik and I like to celebrate every year by decorating our house and enjoying a festive dinner.
The last few years I have tried to get over to Trader Joe's and buy their mini churros but I am never quick enough.
So this year I decided to make my own using this recipe I found on Pinterest.

You will need:
1 Tablespoon of Sugar
1/2 a Cup of Unsalted Butter
1 Cup of Water
1/4 a Teaspoon of Salt
3 Large Eggs
Sugar and Cinnamon to coat
5 Cups of Oil for frying

Combine the sugar, butter, water and salt in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low.
Add flour, stir well, and cook the mixture over low heat for two minutes.
Place the mixture into a large bowl and let cool for ten - fifteen minutes.
Once cool, add in eggs one at a time and mix well between each addition.
If you place the eggs right into the hot mixture they will cook.
Make sure your mixture has had plenty of time to cool.
Place dough into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
Add the oil into a large saucepan over medium high heat.
Heat the oil until 350o Fahrenheit.
Pipe three to four inch sections of dough into oil.
Fry each side until light golden brown, about one to two minutes.
Remove the churro from oil and place on a paper towel to cool for one minute.
Toss in cinnamon sugar.
Enjoy!

These turned out so delicious.
Who doesn't love a warm churro?
I wrapped my churros in doilies and added twine for decoration.

Also, since today is May the Fourth I decided to make a few lightsaber churros for Erik and I to enjoy while we watch Star Wars tonight.
Just divide your cinnamon sugar into separate bowls and add in colored sanding sugar.
Toss your churros in these fun colors to make them look like lightsabers.
I added these napkin wraps to the bottom to complete the look.

So many fun events this weekend!
Do you celebrate either of these "holidays?"
I'd love to hear how!

All my love,
Autumn
